Mark Dawson

Where are you from?
I’m from Aberdeen. 100% Born and bred Aberdonian.

What was your undergraduate degree?
I did my Undergraduate course in Public Relations which I got a 2:1. Before this my background was completing a 2+2 at North East Scotland College as well as completing an NC, HNC, and then my HND in Media & Communications.

Why did you decide to study an MSc in Digital Marketing?
I decided to study an MSc in Digital Marketing to really broaden my horizon in terms of the understanding of the industry of Marketing, PR, Advertising as well as being a general creative too.

What do you like best about the course so far?
I’m really enjoying it! It’s very hands on! No two days are the same and you can be so interchangeable with a piece of work one day then completing something another day. As well as this, I’m currently doing my MSc placement with Mearns & Gill in the West End and really enjoying it so far, working with a lot of different companies.

What’s your favourite app or website, and why?
For me it’s Spotify, maybe a bit basic but the fact you can compile all your favourite records into a mix and get lost in the music while on a walk or run always helps me.

Tell us a random fact about yourself!
Believe it or not – I once tried to break the world record for the ‘Most Ferrero Rocher’s Eaten in 1 Minute’ Challenge back in 2008. I saw it on Britain’s Got Talent, so we set it up along with my teachers while in front of the class and failed miserably. Got a box of Ferrero Rocher’s out of it though so can’t complain! I’m also related to Dame Evelyn Glennie, chancellor of RGU. (She’s my Grandmother’s second cousin once removed or something like that)
