Hi Everyone and welcome to our very first blog post on the Digital Scoop!
This semester our MSc Digital Marketing class of 2018 will be running an exciting podcast and blog series. We will be chatting with industry experts in digital marketing to keep you informed on this ever-changing and increasingly vital industry. But first, we would like to introduce you to our fantastic hosts of The Digital Scoop podcast. We have asked James Galbraith, and Will Farquhar a few questions so you can get to know them better both personally and from a professional standpoint.
What was your Undergraduate degree?
James: “Business Administration with Marketing – Algonquin College
Business Management with Marketing – RGU”
Will: “Management with Marketing – Robert Gordon University”
Where are you originally from?
James: “Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada”
Will: “Perth, Scotland”
What drew you to the MSc Digital Marketing?
James: “I wanted to get the practical skills that I needed in order to land a job in marketing. Although my undergraduate degree provided me with the theory, I found myself lost with how to apply my knowledge”
Will: “Better job prospects and the opportunity to specialise my skills”
What is your favourite digital ad campaign?
James: “Spotify’s ad campaign. They looked into their data and made big billboards such as “To the person who played “Sorry” 42 times on Valentines Day, what did you do?!”. Although the campaign was presented in outdoor presentations, they used their digital data to run this campaign”
Will: “Probably the Volkswagen BlueMotion Roulette campaign. They literally turned a stretch of road in Norway into a virtual roulette table. People could then place ‘bets’ using Facebook to guess how far the VW would get along this stretch of road on a single tank of fuel. Such a fun way to promote their new vehicle and show off its fuel efficiency all at once”
What is your favourite social media platform?
James: “Vero….. Just Kidding. Instagram”
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
James: “My name is actually John but I have always been called James. My parents are strange”
Will: “I run a digital marketing agency that is based in Aberdeen”
