Aberdeen is full of delicious little café gems, serving a range of food from the best full Scottish breakfast to homemade tray bakes and unbelievably delicious stacked pancakes. It can be hard to decide on the best place to go for breakfast or lunch, so here are our top five cafés to enjoy in Aberdeen, starting at number five.

5. The Long Dog Café

At number five on our list is the Long Dog Café which is situated in the West End of Aberdeen. The café offers a range of delicious breakfast options which include smoked salmon on sourdough and the trusted bacon roll (a personal favourite). The lunch menu changes on a daily basis with their soup of the day and a selection of fillings for sandwiches and paninis. With their delightfully large ‘freakshakes’ and their all dogs welcome attitude, this café is definitely one to add to the list.

4. Books and Beans

Coming in at number four is Books and Beans café which is hidden away on Belmont Street. As you walk in, you are surrounded by countless bookshelves filled with books, so if you are a book lover this is an ideal spot for you. The staff are always very attentive and love to chat, plus the service is very quick. Their double pancake stack with maple syrup and bacon is up there with one of the best pancakes I have ever had and their coffee is always spot on. They also offer fresh homemade soups, sandwiches, salads and paninis.

3. Sand Dollar Café

Sand Dollar Café comes in at number three on our list. The café itself has the picturesque beachfront location and the chance to sit outside, obviously weather permitting. This café is a favourite amongst our class with the majority going regularly. From their delicious full Scottish breakfast to their fresh battered haddock, this café is one of the best in Aberdeen.

2. Bonobo Café

Bonobo café comes in at number two on our list. The 100% vegan café can be found on Skene Street, just a ten-minute walk from Union Street. The café décor provides a comfy and cosy feel. The café aims to show people that vegan food doesn’t have to be boring and that a vegan fry up can taste just as good! As well as the café, they also provide yoga classes – all the information for them can be found on their Facebook page.

1. Food Story

Achieving the top spot is Food Story. Situated on Thistle street, this intimate café offers everything from breakfast, lunch and delicious snacks. Food Story was started by a group of individuals in 2013 in the hope that they could create a place where anyone and everyone could come together and enjoy great food. The café itself was built by the owners, all the way down to the wonky furniture and shelves. Food Story has manageded to gain this spot not only for their delicious food but for their attitude towards bringing people together and their zero waste incentive.
